RETENTION & EXPANSION COORDINATOR
GREATER LA PORTE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

NATURE OF WORK

The Retention & Expansion (R&E) Coordinator serves as a liaison between the general public, existing or prospective companies, vendors and the offices of the Greater La Porte Economic Development Corporation (GLEDC).  They report to the Executive Director of GLEDC regarding project management work.  In the case of R&E duties the employee will report to either La Porte County Economic Development Alliance Director dependent on territory of the Company.  It is intended that duties of the position be allocated as 80% R&E and 20% GLEDC Project Management.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The position will be responsible for the following specific duties and any other appropriate duties that will enhance and promote the economic development efforts of GLEDC and the Alliance:

  1. Administrative
      1. Maintain specific administrative aspects of the organization including, but not limited to; board meetings minutes, updating the local business database, creating property sheets for vacant buildings, and responding to State and local leads with follow-up
  2. Planning and Marketing
      1. Assure accurate community marketing information (i.e. demographics, available properties, local tax structures and rates, incentives, etc.)
      2. Package marketing materials on a per-project basis to provide specific information based on the needs of the prospect.  Provide electronic-copy and hard-copy information as necessary.
      3. Assist in the development of pertinent marketing material for both the Alliance and GLEDC
  3. Prospect Development
      1. Maintain strict confidentiality of all potential development projects and prospects.
      2. Serve as a point-of-contact, along with the Executive Director, throughout the development process and respond to various prospect requests for information as necessary.  Provide follow-up as necessary.
      3. Maintain Prospect/ Project folders with information vital to the development process.
  4. Fund Development
      1. Assist in the Fund Development efforts of the Alliance to meet the annual budgeted fund development goals.
  5. Networking, Team and Relationship Building
      1. Work to develop partner relationships with various organizations (i.e. Greater La Porte Chamber of Commerce, units of state and local government, the Michigan City Economic Development Corporation, Northwest Indiana Forum, etc.) to ensure collaboration and cooperation in the economic development efforts of La Porte County and Northwest Indiana.
  6. Alliance Retention & Expansion Duties
      1. Conduct retention and expansion visits to designated companies throughout La Porte County on a regular basis
      2. Coordinate meetings with business owners and complete provided business survey’s
      3. Offer the respective Mayors, Commissioners, Executive Directors of GLEDC & MCEDC; and respective Chamber Representatives to join him/her on retention visits once scheduled
      4. Input data into the provided tracking system
      5. Within 24 hours of a visit provide EDC Executives (and proper contacts) with the information necessary to follow-up with the company 
      6. Minimum monthly progress report to the co-directors of the Alliance
      7. Quarterly reporting to Elected officials may be required
      8. An annual report will be required

KNOWLEDGE AND CHARACTER TRAITS

The Retention & Expansion Coordinator will have the experience, general knowledge and responsible character traits as a representative of the Greater La Porte Economic Development Corporation and La Porte County Economic Development Alliance.  As such, the candidate must exhibit professionalism in the execution of the duties and responsibilities.  The candidate is expected to have the following skills:  leadership, oral and written communication skills, financial, customer service, organizational skills, and marketing.  The Prospect is expected to present oneself in a professional manner daily.  Business attire is required. 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

This position requires that the individual have excellent computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher. Proficiency in Retention & Expansion tracking software is required within 30 days of hire.  Knowledge of financial software such as QuickBooks is a plus.  Certificate from a college or technical school plus 1-2 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

SALARY
$40,000- $45,000 plus benefits
