Monosol, LLC Breaks Ground on New High-Tech
Production Facility in LaPorte

MonoSol LLC, a global leader in the development and commercialization of water soluble products and packaging, has broken ground on their new high-tech production facility in La Porte’s Thomas Rose Industrial Park on October 12.  The new production facility will create approximately 36 new jobs.  The company will invest approximately $11.1 million in building and equipment to erect a 30,000 square-foot facility to house its new high-tech film production lines and pilot facilities.

“It is truly exciting to see the efforts of our community become reality in the building of this high-tech, innovative facility,” said Tim Gropp, executive director of the Greater La Porte Economic Development Corporation. MonoSol offers a wide range of water-soluble packaging films, mold-release films, transfer printing, embroidery support films, water-soluble laundry bags and unique laminated and coated soluble films custom designed for environmentally friendly packaging and disposable systems.

In addition to the new production line, the new facility will also house pilot manufacturing equipment that MonoSol will use to develop and test innovations created at their research and development center in Portage.  Construction is expected to be completed in early January with equipment installed by April.  "Building in La Porte was the right decision for our company and we are excited to become part of the La Porte community.” said P. Scott Bening, CEO of MonoSol.  "As we continue to grow and expand our business globally, we look forward to a great future together"

The new production facility comes as the demand for water-soluble, edible and “green” films and products continues to grow around the globe.  MonoSol’s product range brings value and simplicity to a wide variety of consumer applications and production processes. These innovations allow manufacturers to package pre-measured ingredients in water-soluble and edible pouches that can be introduced into mixes without the need to weigh, sort or remove packaging materials.

“Monosol had hundreds of other communities they could have selected for this new plant, but the fact they chose La Porte is very significant,” said Mayor Morris. “We often hear people speak about the decline of manufacturing in our area, but this announcement is a further indication that it is alive, well, and providing excellent jobs.  I am delighted to welcome Monosol to La Porte.”
